Bio

Hillel is a Professor in UBC's Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, and Special Education. His research interests include early child development, early intervention and the longer term effects of early experiences.  He has written extensively on early literacy, on the impact of different kinds of chld care environments and child care policy. Hillel has consulted with Health Canada on Aboriginal Head Start programs, Social Development Canada on federal child care policies and numerous other government departments and agencies.

His recent publications include Multiple Lenses, Multiple Images: Perspectives on the Child across Time, Space and Discipline (2004, University of Toronto Press) and book chapters in The Handbook of Contemporary Psychology (2003, John Wiley & Sons) and The Developmental Systems Approach to Early Intervention (2005, Paul H. Brookes). Among his other research activities, Hillel is the Director of the Consortium of Health, Intervention, Learning and Development (CHILD), a longitudinal interdisciplinary study of early child development funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
